The Session

HOW WE START

The session begins with standing observations and then proceeds to biomechanical testing (standing, seated and lying down). Next the soft tissue will be palpated and will finish with a cranial assessment.

Techniques used are varied and fall into different categories such as: myofascial, musculoskeletal, osteoarticular, muscle energy, visceral and cranial. The therapist will use the technique best suited for the dysfunction to improve. Techniques may be described into the following descriptions.

TYPES OF TECHNIQUES

Direct

  • working directly toward correction with a given structure : functional techniques, osteo-articular impulses, active or facilitated release techniques.

Indirect

  • Moving  into the position the structure is currently in, to encourage easing of the strain: positional release and functional techniques.

Myofascial

  • Working with the fibrous connective tissue to improve length and mobility: stretching, rocking, muscle energy and strain-counterstrain techniques.

Cranial Osteopathy

  • A gentle technique that works with the structures that affect and surround the central nervous system. This technique can be applied to the entire body and targets deep body tensions. It refers to the normalization of motion that is not under conscious control. It is addressing the issues of restriction and strain that create distortions, using micro-movements.

Visceral Manipulation

  • A gentle technique that works to restore the position, mobility and vitality of a viscera or an organ. It also enhances the function of the surrounding supporting tissues such as the ligaments, blood vessels and lymphatic vessels.
